CGPA ⇄ Percentage Formula Table

Name CGPA → % % → CGPA Example (CGPA 7.2)
CBSE % = CGPA × 9.5 CGPA = % ÷ 9.5 7.2 × 9.5 = 68.4%
AICTE % = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 CGPA = (% ÷ 10) + 0.5 (7.2 − 0.5) × 10 = 67%
Simple % = CGPA × 10 CGPA = % ÷ 10 7.2 × 10 = 72%

Choose the formula officially issued by your board/university. Results differ slightly.

Full Conversion Tables (10 / 5 / 4 Point)

Reference mappings generated with standard linear assumptions. Always verify with your institution; some use alternative mappings or rounding policies.

10-Point Scale (CGPA 0.0 – 10.0)

Conversion using CBSE formula (CGPA × 9.5). Values rounded to 2 decimals.

5-Point Scale (CGPA 0.0 – 5.0)

Percentage = (GPA ÷ 5) × 100. 10-Point Approx = GPA × 2 (pure linear expansion). Institution-specific schemes may differ.

4-Point Scale (CGPA 0.0 – 4.0)

Percentage = (GPA ÷ 4) × 100. 10-Point Approx = GPA × 2.5 (scales 4 → 10). Some US / international transcripts use non-linear or letter grade bands; treat this as approximate.

How Conversions Work

Institutions publish linear mappings between CGPA and percentage. This tool applies pure arithmetic without extra rounding. Always verify with official documents if a specific rounding (e.g. up to 2 decimals, banker's rounding) is mandated.

  • Linear scaling: Each formula is of form percentage = a × CGPA + b.
  • Inverse: Solve for CGPA to get CGPA = (percentage − b) / a.
  • Average CGPA (from SGPA): CGPA = (SGPA1 + SGPA2 + … + SGPAn) ÷ n.

Formulas Used

  • SGPA → Percentage: % = (SGPA × 10) − 7.5
  • Percentage → SGPA: SGPA = (% + 7.5) ÷ 10
  • 10-point (CBSE): % = CGPA × 9.5inverse: CGPA = % ÷ 9.5
  • 10-point (AICTE): % = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10inverse: CGPA = (% ÷ 10) + 0.5
  • 10-point (Simple): % = CGPA × 10inverse: CGPA = % ÷ 10
  • 5-point (GPA): % = (GPA ÷ 5) × 100inverse: GPA = (% ÷ 100) × 5
  • 4-point (GPA): % = (GPA ÷ 4) × 100inverse: GPA = (% ÷ 100) × 4

FAQ

Why are there multiple formulas?

Different boards/universities publish different conversion notifications. Always use the officially prescribed one for transcripts.

Are these exact?

They replicate published linear conversions. Some institutions may apply additional rounding; consult official documents.

Is my data saved?

No. Everything is computed locally.

Can I add a custom formula?

Feature planned. For now choose the closest or contact us to suggest one.
